The Whole of Government Approach to Promoting Child Wellbeing in Uganda, with Introduction to the CPSS Framework for Action
Presented By:
This session will focus on the inspiring Ugandan example of taking a 'whole of government' and system strengthening approach to promoting child wellbeing and protection.
The session will start with an introduction to the Children Protection System Strengthening Framework for Action that was launched in Bogota, Colombia in 2024. Based on the experiences of governments, civil society and academics in strengthening child protection systems for over 20 years, the Framework for Action sets out six priority actions that governments, working closely with civil society and other partners, can implement to make national child protection systems stronger and more inclusive for all children.
Then Lydia Najjemba Wasula, Principal Probation and Welfare Officer for the Ugandan Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development will present a detailed account of the Ugandan approach to system strengthening, including mechanisms for multi-sectoral coordination from national to local level; child participation; universal services for all children including the country's large child refugee population; and a requirement for all Ministries to work in coordination on any measures related to child wellbeing.
Then the session will be opened up for Q&A and audience discussion.
