Identifying Maltreatment Subgroups with Patterns of Maltreatment Subtype and Chronicity

ISPCAN Resources
Focus of this Training
Dimensions of Maltreatment are each associated with adverse outcomes across development • Subtype • Chronicity, onset, recency • Perpetrator • Severity Conclusions: (1) Children who were exposed to chronic/multi-subtype maltreatment showed unique vulnerability to childhood aggression and disinhibition. (2) Children with chronic/multi-subtype maltreatment exposure were more likely to be involved in relationship conflict, partly because of increased childhood aggressive behavior. (3) Children exposed to neglect (with or without abuse) showed vulnerability for childhood aggression, which in turn predicted romantic relationship conflict.
