      Session Summary

The impact of violence on children is devastating and long-lasting. It also has significant economic costs, estimated at up 11 per cent of national GDP. The cost of VAC can exceed annual expenditure on health, in some cases by up to six times. Yet, expenditure on child protection and violence prevention remains chronically low.

This session will build on recent global and national experiences to demonstrate that ending violence against children is not only a human rights imperative, but also a sound economic investment. It will provide an opportunity to share tools for assessing the costs of violence and returns on investing in integrated strategies to prevent and respond to violence against children.
