Understanding and Managing the Impact of Secondary Traumatic Stress and Burnout Among Child Serving Professionals: Practical Strategies for Self-Care

“The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through water without getting wet.” (Rachel Naomi Remen, MD):

During an era of wars, climate change and global pandemics, the topic of stress and burnout among child serving professionals became fundamental. This unique time of changes has accelerated the mental health and burnout crisis among child serving providers (within health care, mental health, child welfare, etc.), who have long faced difficult, irregular hours in challenging, and extraordinarily stressful, working environments. The goal of this webinar is to provide a deeper understanding on the concepts of Secondary Traumatic Stress/Burnout and address practical strategies on how to improve the well-being of child professionals across a variety of settings. Dr. Zlatina Kostova will provide a general overview of Secondary Traumatic Stress and Burnout, its impact on the physiology and well-being, as well as practical strategies to identify and manage it. The presentation will provide space for interactive discussions with participants, and experiential practice of self-care activities.
